Tempest Pro composite sea kayaks by Wilderness Systems are made of fiberglass and-or Kevlar. These kayaks have been built using an assortment of different skeg systems over the years. A Tempest Pro kayak will be white on the bottom and some color on the deck. Some will be outfitted with Kajak Sport hatch covers, others with Wilderness Systems hatch covers. There are two known types of skeg systems found on these Wilderness Systems Tempest Pro kayaks:
Some Tempest Pro kayaks are outfitted with the Pre-2010 Confluence brand skeg parts as described above.
Other Tempest Pro kayaks are outfitted with Kajak Sport skeg systems. The commonly needed parts would be the Kajak Sport Replacement Skeg with Center Wire and the Kajak Sport Skeg Control Unit.
It will be up to you to visually identify replacement parts by comparing to skeg parts on your kayak. Use the photos and video on this web site to do so.
None of the archives available indicate what skeg system has been used for any particular Tempest Pro model or date range. Nor do the archives indicate the possibility of skeg system combinations such as the use of 3mm Skeg Wire vs 7×7 Cable. These wire-cables may be interchangeable on a Tempest Pro. There may be other skeg parts and configurations that are not address on this page.
